Email Discussion Guidelines

Email discussion groups are meant to facilitate and enhance communication among St. John Nepomuk Catholic School Patrons and at times, faculty.  Subscription to one or more discussion groups is voluntary and is a benefit provided by St. John Nepomuk Catholic School.

As with any community (real or virtual), St. John Nepomuk has put in place guidelines that govern behavior on these lists to ensure that it is respectful of others and not in violation of any laws or regulations.  Please take a moment to ensure that you understand these important policies and guidelines.

By using these St. John Nepomuk-sponsored email discussion lists, you agree that you have read, understood, and will abide by the policies and guidelines established for these member discussion groups.  You also agree to reserve list discussions for topics related to St. John Nepomuk School.

At this time, St. John Nepomuk does not actively monitor these lists for inappropriate postings and does not, on its own, undertake editorial control of postings.  However, in the event that any inappropriate posting is brought to St. John Nepomuk’s attention, St. John Nepomuk will take all appropriate action.

If you have questions, contact the St. John Nepomuk office or call 405-354-2509.  St. John Nepomuk reserves the right to suspend or terminate participation on all lists for members who violate these rules.

RULES FOR PARTICIPATION IN ST. JOHN NEPOMUK’S EMAIL DISCUSSION LISTS

  • No advertising or personal marketing for grade level lists.  List participants may not post advertisements or solicitations of any kind to any of the Pre-K thru Eighth grade mailing lists.
  • List members of the St. John School Patrons list may mention the availability of commercial services or products on the list, but no prices.
    • Individuals may list personal equipment with prices.
    • All correspondence regarding services or products should be conducted privately, not on the list.
    • St. John Nepomuk does not make any claim regarding services or products offered by members of the list.
  • No spamming and no harvesting addresses from the list.  St. John Nepomuk will not sell the email addresses of list participants, and no one is allowed to collect or use the addresses of list subscribers for the purpose of unsolicited email marketing, or "spam."  Once notified of such activity, St. John Nepomuk will permanently remove the offending party from the email lists.  If you receive spam that you believe results from your participation in St. John Nepomuk’s lists, please contact St. John Nepomuk immediately at moderator@sjnok.org
  • No attachments are to be sent to the list. Because email attachments may contain computer viruses, attachments cannot be posted to the lists.  All information must be contained in the body of your email message.
  • No HTML, rich text, or other stylized messages — send messages in plain text only.  Many mail systems cannot recognize messages in any format other than plain text.
  • No virus warnings. Most virus warnings are hoaxes and are not appropriate for discussion on St. John Nepomuk’s email lists.  If you feel that there is cause for concern about a virus, please contact the St. John Nepomuk office or call 405-354-2509.
  • No libelous, slanderous, defamatory, or abusive messages.  St. John Nepomuk’s email lists are designed only for the open exchange of information and ideas among St. John Nepomuk patrons.  All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited.  Participants should not post anything that they are not comfortable acknowledging came from them.  Participants should not post personal or confidential information about themselves or others.
  • No fraudulent or other illegal activities of any kind should take place on St. John Nepomuk’s email lists.  No participant should impersonate any person or name that they are not entitled or authorized to use.  St. John Nepomuk reserves the right to take appropriate action against offending parties.

If you believe someone has violated any of these list rules, please contact St. John Nepomuk at 405-354-2509 or moderator@sjnok.org. Anyone purposely abusing the lists can be removed at any time at the discretion of St. John Nepomuk.  St. John Nepomuk reserves the right change the list rules at any time without notice.  Any changes to the list rules will be posted here.

GENERAL ETIQUETTE POLICIES
  • Identify yourself in the messages you post to the lists.  Participants are more likely to respond to messages from an actual person.  An email "signature" is the most convenient way to do this. However, signatures and other automatically inserted text must be kept short and must comply with all list guidelines.
  • No personal attacks or "flames" regarding administration, faculty, individuals or organizations are allowed.  St. John Nepomuk’s email lists are forums for respectful, professional discussion.  Messages posted to the list must not contain any content that could reasonable be considered abusive, profane, or obscene.
  • Stay on-topic. All messages should be relevant to the scope of the email lists.
  • Use a good subject line. When posting a message to the list, include a meaningful subject line that concisely describes the topic of your message, so that participants will be able to easily identify messages of interest to them.
  • Remember that replies automatically go to the entire list.
